Developing Our Trailer

This is our first cut of our trailer. After adding our filming to IMovie we then had to cut all of the filming we didn't want out of the trailer. We then put the scenes that looked good in order that we wanted them. Adding transitions added the horror/thriller trailer look as we used mainly fade in and outs because from our research we realised that this was the main transition used between scenes in horror/thriller trailers. On some scenes we added flashes of a negative screen. We used this to show the ideologies of our trailer and to interest the viewer because it will grab their attention.

When adding narrative text we used a black background with a clear white font. This is because from our research we found that this is the main way that narrative text is used in horror/thriller trailers. We used an easy to read font for the narrative text because it will not be on the screen for long so it must be easy for the audience to read in a short space of time. We used phrases that add to the tension of the trailer and make the viewer more interested about what is going on. The narrative texts also help make the storyline more understandable and portray the genre of the trailer successfully. 'Feel the panic' 'Feel the fear' these narrative texts relate to each other and show repetition. The narrative texts also relate to the scenes that are being shown on the screen. These are also other techniques that are used in trailers that we found from our research. 'Don't look back' this piece of narrative text draws the viewer in and creates suspense and tension within the audience because it seems like a direct comment to the audience.

We obviously still need to add music to this trailer and we also need to add the title of the film and the distributing labels and other institution logos. We plan to question our audience extensively throughout the production of our trailer to make sure that we continue to appeal to our target audience. We will now ask our audience for suggestions on other scenes that we should include to make it more appealing and the type of music that would go well with our trailer.
