Editing is an important aspect of teaser trailers, once the raw footage has been filmed it needs to be cut and sequenced in a exciting way to advertise the film correctly.Horror/Thriller trailers use transitions and cuts to build tension and create the ideology of the film.Music is often played throughout or at least for a majority it will either make or break the trailer so it needs to be chosen properly!!
- Longer shots (not to long the trailer will drag!) are used to establish character, setting and hint to the problem they face.
- Fade in and out to black/white,generally black. This just makes it smooth between scenes and flow to the next.
- Shorter shots and quick cuts show the exciting moments which build tension these are not necessarily in chronological order.
- Sudden moments of quiet and silence can be important to add effect.
- Faced paced or dramatic music compared with eeire quite discord music portrays genr
Narrative Text:
Used to draw in the audience and 'talk' directly to them.Narrative text is a popular tool in the creation of trailers/teaser trailers. The statements are short and sharp and can be used to portray a characters feelings or tell a brief synopsis of a film for example. They often pose questions to the audience too. Here are two examples one from Saw and one from Halloween.
Voice-overs:
Voice-over also called off-camera or offstage commentary is a production technique where a non diegetic voice is used in this case in a teaser trailer. The voice-over may be spoken by someone who appears elsewhere in the production or a specialist actor one of the most famous ones being Don lafontaine. The sound of a human voice-over voices are placed over images shown on the screen. Voice-overs are sometimes used to create irony or by a character reflecting back on his or her past. However Voice-overs are often used to create the effect of storytelling by a character/omniscient narrator. This is a very popular technique in Teaser Trailers.
