This image is from The Others trailer. It shows the main character behind banisters. I think that this is a good idea for my own trailer because the bars of the banisters could represent someone being trapped or afraid. This is another shot from The Others that I may take inspiration from to use in my trailer. I think silhouettes are a good scene to use because they create a spooky and mysterious feel. They can also show a possible dark side to a character. I like the idea of using dark lighting in my film to create tension. An example of the kind of light that I would like to use can be scene in this scene from The Others. As only half of her face is in the light it creates a mysterious feel. I will also use close up shots of the characters so that their emotions can be expressed and recognised by the viewer.
This scene from Jeepers Creepers also gave me some inspiration for my own film. I will also use long shots so that the set and location can be fully seen. This helps the audience understand what the genre of the film is depending on the location of the shots.
I will use point of view shots like this one from Jeepers Creepers so that the audience can relate to the characters and it will allow them to feel more involved with the film. I will use narrative text in my teaser trailer because it is a good way to create tension and keep the viewer interested. In the Jeepers Creepers trailer they have shown the narrative text on a dark strange background. I may use this technique in my trailer to make it more interesting. I will also use scary phrases like this one to scare the audience and give them a brief idea of the plot.
A may use an establishing shot similar to this one in Scream in my own trailer. Establishing shots are a good way of building suspense and giving the audience a good view of the location.
I will use close up shots that are zoomed into using the camera. This makes the shot more interesting and more intense. A may use an establishing shot similar to this one in Scream in my own trailer. Establishing shots are a good way of building suspense and giving the audience a good view of the location.
I will use scenes of characters running through the trees and I will use tracking like they have done in the Scream trailer. This is a good camera angle to create tension within a trailer because it makes it look like the character is being watched and followed. This makes it a good technique to use in a horror film.
This scene from the Scream trailer shows a door slamming on its own. I liked this scene because it makes the audience wonder what is going on and suggests to them that something is about to happen to one of the characters therefore creating suspense.I will include scenes of characters in a panic to make the trailer more dramatic and interesting. This scene makes the viewer have a sense of urgency and it allows them to relate with the character.
These are my favourite scenes from the trailers I analysed and the ones that I thought would go best in my film. By looking at the scenes in more detail I have realised that they all have a thick black border around them to make them look wide screen. I may include this in my own trailer to make it look professional. Another thing I will need to consider when re creating some of these scenes is the lighting. In most horror films they contain a lot of scenes with dark, dim lighting to create a spooky representation. I may need to follow this code and convention when creating my trailer so that it is as effective as it can be.
Excellent detailed deconstruction of some film stills. There is a lot to learn from going through this process, and I really look forward to seeing how you apply this knowledge!
