Another aspect and perhaps the most important concept we have to look into is the central image. The audience should be able to guess the genre the magazine is representing just by the central image and the way it is shot and edited. They are generally eye level medium shots and fill up the length and width of the front cover. However, the image varies dependent on the film for example we may want to look into taking a high angle shot of the main character Abbie,to create vulnerability,or a close up to reflect the scared emotion she portrays in the film.On thing is clear though that the image must represent the film and the ideology of it! Regarding the two magazines i have previously analysed the images portrayed the genre well such as the Dark Night one was action/thriller and the Avatar one was Sci-Fi.There is a few more examples below of how the central image is of vast importance....
The way the image is shot is important along with the angle, film magazines will often use a famous star on the front to draw the audience in.The image can even be "cut out" such as the Megan fox one or just the whole image placed as the background of the cover.Effects can be added such as sepia tones an example is above.you can also add a black and white effect to them an example of this is below,as you can see this is eye catching and adds extra emphasis on the face and makes it stand out on the back ground.
The cover story is key for who will buy your magazine, for our one we may want to have an interview with the main character of our film. There is generally a cover story or sometimes a eye catching tagline to draw the audience in.At times the mention of a very famous person is enough to catch the audiences eye.
Every magazine regardless of type and genre have a bar code, price and issue number and generally a website on them so we are going to put these features on our magazine. They are normally placed under the masthead or just above it so we will take this into account when creating out product.
