New moon is sequel to the popular film twilight. New moon is also known as the ‘The Twilight saga’. It is an American romantic, fantasy film of 2009 and is based on the famous novels by Stephanie Meyer. The film is distributed by Summit Entertainment. Summit entertainment is an independent American film studio. They are a fairly new production company and the Twilight Series have been their biggest success.
The trailer is 1minute 50 seconds long which is the average length for teasers. The trailer begins with the typical green screen which is followed by the distributor, Summit entertainment. The sound used in the trailer consists of both diegetic and non diegetic . A soundtrack is played throughout the trailer as well are dialogue. There is no voice over used and this may be to keep the flow of the trailer rather than destroy it. The soundtrack begins when the distributor is presented. The dialogues of the characters are spoken over the music.

Then the trailer begins with an aerial shot which works as an establishing shot. The next shot is of a house, it a long shot and the scene is dark which straight away reveals the genre. Screen time is used as the scene cuts to a medium close up shot. The actors are a female and male which instantly tells the audience that this is a romantic genre. An over the shoulder shot is also involves which is typically used for a conversation. The scene leads to a kissing scene and the shot is a close up. This is a scene which is expected in such genres.

Fade outs are the only transitions used so far which are helping one scene link to another. Asynchronous sound is used at this point; it is almost like a voice over but dialogue from the next scene. This also helps the scene blend in together. The scene is of conversation of the two main characters together and since it is the same scene, different camera angles are used which alternate roughly every 4seconds and they overlap instead of the fade out which has been used frequently.

More characters are introduced in the next scene and overlaps are used again when changing the camera angle but of the same scene. A high angle is then used which makes the characters seem small and as if something is about to happen. The music then gets louder and higher pitched was symbolises the event about to take place. The main character gets a paper cut which is dangerous since she is surrounded by vampires. The music at this point becomes intense. An extreme close up is used simultaneously to show the drop of blood on the ground which is a significant scene to what is about to take place next.

The next shot is of the ‘hero’ of the film, the protangonist, pushing his brother and this is done in fast motion and lasts for roughly 3 seconds which creates tension and panic. It also represents the strength of the vampire. Dialogue from the next scene begins already, overlapping the previous scene.

The next scene is of a forest which creates the eerie feel. It adds to the fantasy genre. The whole scene mainly consists of two shots and this shows the closeness between the two characters. This is the climax scene as the boy tells the girl that he is leaving her. This leaves her feeling very vulnerable and scared. To represent this emotion a birds eye view shot it used with the girl laying on the floor with her body very close together. The soundtrack is very quiet during this scene and you can hear heaving breathing which creates terror and worry. The concentration is on the dialogue of the antagonist in the film who is now introduced. He is cleverly revealed during when the protagonist has left leading up to the climax.

Very quick scene changes now occur, all linking together with fade out. There is no music and then suddenly dramatic sound is used to show who is identified as the hero. He is not wearing a top which shows his muscles and heavy build and therefore, connotates strength and power. It is a medium close up shot and then leads to the scene of him running to save the girl who is about to be attacked. We see the girl running and the attacker shocked. Dialogue is then introduced to increase the tension of the girl saying “Jake Run!” This is the first dialogue after a sequence of none and creates a sense of panic. This also gives the dialogue more emphasis and importance.

The girl falls to the ground and the hero of the scene transforms into a werewolf. This is a long shot to show the girl on the floor in the back and the werewolf transformation. We then hear the werewolf roaring and the screen change to black and the name of the film appears. This leaves it at a cliff hanger leaver the viewer wanting more. Does the attacker survive? Or is he killed? This is the purpose of a teaser trailer.

The name of the film appears on a black ground and golden text and it gets bigger almost like a camera zooming in on it. This then fades out and the release date appears with the website of the film and institution logo along the bottom.

The mise-en-scene of the trailer included sets like the forest and a home. These are two basic places which are usually used with this type of genre. My group and I are also likely to shoot our film in similar places. Since the forest helps give the eerie and haunting feel. The clothing of the characters throughout the trailer are dark and dull colour such as black, dark blue and brown. Make-up and hair is very natural and casual which makes the characters more relatable. The lighting is generally quite dark which connotates the dark events that take place. Especially since it is a fantasy genre.

This is a very effective teaser trailer since we are introduced to all the main characters and so marketing is complete. Viewers who like the actors will be invited to watch the film. We also get a sense of the genre and basic plot. This is a teaser trailer and therefore not much is revealed and keeps the viewers guessing but it does attract the audience. The main aspect is the fact that it finishes at a cliff hanger and this is something we will defiantly incorporate in out trailer since the purpose of the teaser to get the audience to want to watch it but if the story is revealed it will not keep you hooked. A common transition used is the fade out and overlap and this is something we are most likely to use.

Here are some shots/camera angle/ edits used in the film:
