Codes and conventions:
After researching three trailers and looking into the different codes and conventions of them and teaser trailers in general,i thought i should post on my findings from them. There are a number of codes and conventions that a horror trailer consists of,some examples are:
- Location-Dark & eerie
- Introduction of antagonist/protagonist
- Quick shots
- Tension building music
- Dark lighting
- Colours typically red and black
- Narrative text-adds suspense
- Sound effects-Non deigectic (added post production) screams and breathing etc.
- Close ups-show victims face and emotions
- P.O.V shots-puts the audience in the antagonists position.
- Institution logo at the start
Ideas from analysis:
Here are some inspiration for shots and edits we may want to use in our trailer:
Extreme close up of eye/eyes to convey emotion and build tension.
Shots of landscapes to establish location and build tension
Girl waking up after a nightmare
Narrative text between clips
Use different lighting techniques
